Mentorship Award
Award Purpose
This fund is designed to promote STEM education and awareness among school age girls and to encourage more girls to pursue studies in STEM fields. Therefore, increasing the representation of women in STEM fields. This fund would allow members of BWIS to set up programs in schools, libraries, or other venues that would encourage girls to pursue studies in science. We define “outreach” activities as those geared to presenting science to younger audiences, rather than scientific professionals.
Application
To get funding for these pursuits, applicants must submit a description of the program they intend to start or continue and show how it would have a positive influence on young girls to participate in STEM programs. The application must include a budget estimate for the program. These programs might include:
- Educational materials to be handed out in schools.
- After school activities such as science clubs or field trips
- Hands on experiments at schools or other venues
- Science communication and outreach activities such as presentations or lectures
